When Will We Have A Clean Ganga Maiyaa ?

Given the fact that Kanpur, hailed as Manchester of the East, is UP’s leading Industrial site, the repercussions of ill-organized manufacturing activities were bound to throw life out of gear. The problem with our policymakers is that they care a damn about the welfare of people, being more interested in in raking in huge moolah. They care a damn for the fate of our national river Ganges!

Probably, that’s why even after spending millions in the name of Ganga Action Plan we have seen no improvement in the quality of water. Above all, though millions have been spent the state machinery is still clueless about the hazards of pursuing flawed industrial policies. Unless they come to perceive the projects in totality, there is little hope that whiff of fresh air enters in the lives of residents there.

Recently, I was in Mirzapur and was taking a walk on one of the important banks of Ganga there. The said place was close to mortuary. The unclaimed bodies after the post mortem were thrown in the Ganga. The few moments that I spent there were moments of deep shock for me.I saw these unclaimed bodies flowing here and there in the waters of Ganges!

The callousness of the State machinery could be gauged from the fact that despite several reminders from the Allahabad High court ,it has failed to check flow of sewage and effluents into the Ganges in Kanpur and elsewhere. No need to suggest that likes of Veer Bhadra Mishra, Swami Hari Chaitanya Brahmachari and Dr. G.D. Agrawal need to come to the fore to hammer the inertness of our greedy netas and inefficient bureaucrats. The Kumbha period is about to begin. The Sangam will again be overcrowded with the devotees. They will take a dip and go back in blissful state of mind. But the woes of Ganga Maiyya will continue to remain the same.
