Great Indian elections – Part one

I am 46 years old medical professional. I had some how inclination towards politics and Indiraji. In last 20 years I have seen at least 5 general elections. My first experience with politics and elections was when I was in 12th Standard and was at Akola in 1978.

One of my relatives was a leader that time from Akola so I could get entry into inner core smoothly. He was Shri Ghulam Nabisaheb whose elections from Washim (a close town from Akola of Maharashtra) which I witnessed first, He was a choice of Late Indiraji and was so assigned to get elected from there as it was the congress bastion. I do remember irrespective of my important year of studies I was wafting for her Helicopter to land at Akola from 2 P.M. in the after noon till onset of dark.

I got a heavy dose of advice from my father and mother for wasting time for this so called unnecessary act for me. No doubt I cleared the examination with a standing in order of merit and could get admission at Government Medical College, Nagpur easily and I am now a medical professional. This is not for writing my past but to tell about how my journey started.. Nabisaheb got elected smoothly. But after getting elected he forgot Akola and his workers.

I am writing this for how the elections and the politics changes color soon.

I was rather then involved with my studies but was sure a member of NSUI. Most of our colleagues were impressed by Late Shri Shrikant Jichkar, our senior and active member of congress. Later we had some ideological differences and I revolted against him and saw to it that his command in our college was reduced, Leave it

Now I start the real story and why I am writing this. Soon I was again involved in politics after M.D… This time Nabisaheb sought to fight elections from a place YEOTMAL close to Nagpur again a congress bastion and with an assurance that he will get elected smoothly.

What ever I am writing is for all to know how the scenario changes with having same leader for a congress hold fort. He campaigned relentlessly and sadly lost the election, He was told that the so called Ram Janma Bhoomi episode and BJP’s trump card was reason for defeat. As on also he must be thinking so. even today.

I would like to tell though this blog how electoral politics is and how win and defeat are calculated at grass root level, He was sure to win if all congressman would have worked for him. But there were many inner voices from congress, working for him on the face and were actually working against him. How to get him defeated was the main congress issue at the grass root level, I witnessed one meeting at prominent leader of that place and who was then in charge of the campaign. All congressmen worked against Nabisaheb underground. He was given an impression that this election is won prior to counting by him. On the day of counting he lost and all workers were untraceable to him.

In short the Indian politics is never an iconic or forced upon. The real grass level workers determine the fortune of the leader; He then never turned back to Maharashtra. He was the choice of none other than Rajeevji but still lost. But all those who saw to him defeated are at near proximity to him. It is again an irony. Our political system works on so called loyalist than the real workers. No one is really interested on what is the need of the time but on what is called as “CHAMCHAGIRI” in Marathi. He lost with a huge margin and had no chance of face saving. Still we saw him as a chief minister of J & K. So still our elections are fought on caste, creed, religion and what not. Now the same people who saw that Nabisaheb should get defeated will be rewarded with a post to fight this election form Yeotmal.

This blog is for those who go with what this media says with their own judgments of shifting votes and so much of debate how one party lost or won. This is not true at all places. There are forces beyond the eye of media who can make a difference.
