Given the way women have made their mark in various fields, the anxiousness of fair sex to join combat duties would not sound too odd. However, having said that, let’s not forget that there are unpalatable truths. An undue haste without going in for the pros and cons of their involvement would in the long run could prove lethal for their interests. One does take pride in their various achievements in the army but these are not enough to make way for entry in combat operations.
Touching other issue, the suicide of Lieutenant Susmita Chakraborthy and other military personnel brings into open that burden of tough demands besides prejudices and attitudes of top brass in the army are proving fatal for the well-being of young officers and soldiers attached with lower ranks. Ironically, such tragic incidents make a dent into the image of of army, which is desperate to increase its strength. The developments make it clear that the army needs to move in step with “changing times”, which provide its officers greater interaction with lighter side of life. Or else, brain-hammering schedules would make them prone to personality disorders.
