up police scam sexually abused

Mayawati government has revealed that ‘sex factor’ was also involved in the alleged police recruitment scam, happened during the regime of Mulayam Singh government. According to the report, the Board members had pressurized women candidates to do sexual favors for getting a job in the Uttar Pradesh Police force.

This is a shocking piece of revelation but the investigating committee has said this is true. The committee is investigating the recruitment of 22,000-odd policemen in Uttar Pradesh police force during the rule of Samajwadi party government.

According to the investigating committee, the officer’s in-charge of the recruitment boards and a politician exploited women applicants during the process of recruitment.

Shailjakant Mishra, ADG, STF said:

The girls told me this over and over again and I felt very ashamed. I feel horrible while I tell you about what they went through. They told me that they were sexually abused. The names of some girls who objected to this were struck off the list.

After this disclosure, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati suspended 7 more IPS officers for their alleged role in the police constable recruitment scam. Till date, 25 IPS officers have been suspended in the connection with police constables recruitment scam.
Mayawati government also ordered to sacked 7400 more constables with immediate effect on Sunday.

According to the investigating committee, it found several persons qualified in the process without writing the exams. The board conducted at least 2500 interviews in a single day. One police officer of DIG level, facing probe in the recruitment scam, has allegedly accepted that more than 85 per cent applicants were selected because of the recommendations came from leaders of Samajwadi Party.

The state government had also ordered the police department to initiate departmental proceedings against 40 other police officials allegedly involved in the recruitment.

Additional Director General of UP Police, Shailja Kant Mishra, heading the probe, said:

I hang my head in shame. The girl recruits have alleged that they were sexually abused before their recruitment. A politician-police may be well behind the recruitment scam. During the recruitment, UP ‘s famous politician was present inside when the list was being brought.

On the other hand, the Samjadwadi Party has rejected all the claims and expressed doubts on the neutrality of the investigation process. Between 2004 and 2006, 22,000 ‘successful’ candidates were given jobs and now 18000 have already lost their jobs.
