Gone are the days when birthday presents for kids would invariably be a good book. Nowadays the book has been replaced by play stations, video games or gadgets. The habit of reading is reduced only to the extent of text books. No kid is fond of reading in his leisure time.
This lack of reading is slowly killing their creativity and destroying the innocence of the kids. They are becoming more violent by nature . The games that they play on the play stations and the movies they watch exposes them to a lot of violence at a very young age. The books which let their imaginations run wild and thus making them creative in the process is slowly losing its charm. A book was considered to be the best friend of children which teaches them a lot of things.
Their ability to write is also improved when they read good books. But one the other television only makes them dull and prone to becoming lazy . The capacity of the growing minds is not utilized effectively due to the lack of reading habits.
It must be the duty of the parents to ensure that the habit of reading is inculcated in their children from a very young age, they must be made aware about the importance of reading. This will make them a better individual when they grow up and bring out the best in them. Therefore children must go back to reading.
In other words, both leisurely reading and close-reading could benefit us neurologically in pretty significant ways. In case broadening our cultural horizons wasn’t enough! Although it doesn’t always make you a better communicator, those who read tend to have a more varied range of words to express how they feel and to get their point across. This increases exponentially with the more volumes you consume, giving you a higher level of vocabulary to use in everyday life.
Unlike blog posts and news articles, sitting down with a book takes long periods of focus and concentration, which at first is hard to do. Being fully engaged in a book involves closing off the outside world and immersing yourself into the text, which over time will strengthen your attention span.
You are only limited by what you can imagine, and the worlds described in books, as well as other peoples views and opinions will help you expand your understanding of what is possible. By reading a written description of an even or a place, your mind is responsible for creating that image in your head, instead of having the image placed in front of you when you watch television.
