This has been almost clear that President Kalam is not going to remain in the rashtrapati Bhavan for the second term. BJP, Congress and left parties are giving indication that they have their own choices now as the candidate for the post of President.

During the NDA meet, the Trinamool Congress leader Mamta Banerjee has pushed the name of former PM Atal Bihari Vajpayee as presidential candidate during the NDA meet on Tuesday.

Later, Vajpayee released a statement and said that he had no intentions of becoming the president of India. However, Vajpayee showed no interest in the race but the NDA leaders had unanimously agreed on the proposal given by Mamta Banerjee.

Vajpayee has written in the letter as;

…the media have carried reports today about some suggestions that I should stand as a candidate for the post of President of India. I want to state categorically that I have no desire to occupy that office.

On the other hand, the BJP leaders have said that the NDA would shortly announce its candidate for the post of President of India. The report says that Vice-President Bhairon Singh Shekhawat is likely to become NDA’s choice for the post. The Congress party has also pushed forward three names including Pranab Mukherjee.

The Samajwadi Party and Bahujan Samaj Party would play key role in the election of next President of India. Further, The Times of India has reported that the Left parties are ready to support the candidature of Pranab Mukherjee, however, the Congress leadership is still undecided on the names that to whom to field in the presidential election.
