Two Things to Try Before You Kill Yourself

this story

and felt there is the need to suggest two possible ways to avoid suicide.

In America, due to the bad economic situation, murder suicide is now so common that a lot of lives are wasted weekly.

In life, we often face tough calls and tough choices. You can never say how well you will perform in such situation until you are faced to face with it.

We all boil at a certain temperature. We break at a certain pressure. And life will push each and everyone of us there.

I always say to myself, if the situation is so bad and suicide seemed to be the only choice, I will first try two things first.

1.) I will go to Brazil. By that I mean that I will go to a place I cannot speak their language, where nobody knows my name, where nature is beautiful and maybe start afresh. In such a place, I have a chance of making something out of what remains of my life. If the man in this story had walked across the border, into a neighboring country, chances are that he would be alive today and probably contribute more to life. I also reserve the option of walking into a monastery. Walk in there and say, “I want to be a monk.” Shut the world out. There is always somewhere to go. But just like in an emergency situation, if you have not thought of a rescue plan, if you have not built a bunker, if you have not mapped out a snow path, when it hits you, it is often too late to come up with something.
2.) Because the situation that leads someone to think about killing themselves is often grave and leaves little room for rational thinking, I have adopted another preemptive strategy – I hope for the best in life but I also imagine the worst. By imagining the worst, I give myself a little shock absorber. By hoping for the best, I give myself something to live for. I am sure if this man had thought of his wife sleeping with his best man and had mentally prepared himself for that possibility, he might have reacted to the story differently. The truth about life is that the world does not owe anyone anything. It moves the way it wants. No matter how good you are, it is going to throw a curve ball at you. What are you gonna do? Jump out? If you jump, it continues. Who is the loser? You.

It is not always easy, especially when the thought is due to chemical imbalance – mental illness.

But man must not give up. It has been said that, “Men do not fail. They only give up trying.”
