Top 8 Movies from the Marvel Cinematic Universe

The Marvel Cinematic Universe has successfully transitioned many of its comic book superheroes to the big screen. Superheroes like Iron Man, Avengers, Captain America and the latest, Dr Strange, have captured our imagination and enthralled us with their on-screen stunts and feats. The MCU began with Iron Man, which was a huge hit and now has several sequels. This led to other movies based on the favourite heroes of Marvel Comics, with MCU coming out with a new movie every year. Check out the top 8 movies of the Marvel Cinematic Universe:

 Iron Man (2008)

Iron Man was the comeback movie of Robert Downey Jr, and it did give a boost to his career. The movie was quite different in the genre of superhero movies, as we see Robert Downey Jr’s character using hi-tech gear, which made the movie thrilling and fun. Iron Man’s chaotic craziness was a big hit with audiences worldwide, as the mix of fun and good-over-evil was too good to resist.

Thor (2011)

Thor, directed by Sir Kenneth Branagh featured Chris Hemsworth in the lead role and made him household name. The movie was centred round the feats of Thor, who was banished to Earth by his father Odin. He has to outwit his evil brother Loki who wants the throne and reclaim his hammer called the Mjolnir. The heavenly and earthly realms become battlegrounds for Thor and his enemies, which added to the movie’s appeal. Chris Hemsworth’s Thor was supported by some great actors like Anthony Hopkins, Tom Hiddleston, Natalie Portman, Idris Elba, Rene Russo and Kat Dennings. This engrossing movie also had plenty of sweet romantic moments, and was a hit with critics too.

Guardians of the Galaxy (2014)

Some consider this movie to be the best not only in the MCU list, but in the entire superhero team genre of movies. The sci-fi movie has a refreshing team of superheroes, who love to have fun and do their own thing, even as they face death. Chris Pratt, as Peter Quill who is half-alien, has the task of keeping the Infinity Stone safe from some supervillains. This movie about superheroes who work together for humanity’s sake, but who cannot stand each other, it is a fun watch.

Dr Strange (2016)

Dr Strange is a flawed playboy which Benedict Cumberbatch plays to perfection. He is a surgeon who is unable to use his hands after an accident. This movie in the MCU moves away from the traditional action filled sequences, we are treated to a spiritual quest instead, of the lead character, as the Ancient One, played by Tilda Swinton, introduces him to a mystical world. Dr Strange then starts teleporting and conjuring weapons, and the ultimate fight is quite unique.

Captain America: Winter Soldier (2014)

Captain America is the epitome of goodness, as he fights supervillains. In the Winter Soldier, Captain America is riddled with doubts against his pals, especially Bucky Barnes, as he fights against corruption. The movie is well-balanced and gripping, and will keep you on edge throughout.

The Avengers (2012)

What could be better than all the superheroes of the MCU come together in one movie? The Avengers – Iron Man, Captain America, Hulk and Thor and the actors which play them makes this movie a great watch with Loki, being the villain. We are transported across parallel universes in the middle of alien invasion, culminating in an intense final battle.

The Incredible Hulk (2008)

Hulk, the green glowering monster is a difficult character to portray on screen. But Edward Norton was very believable as both the troubled scientist and the huge Hulk. The movie is a nice, enjoyable watch. This superhero is a favourite of kids, young and old.

Iron Man 3 (2013)

Iron Man’s third sequel was written and directed by Lethal Weapon’s writer Shane Black. It is therefore not the Iron Man that was expected, and had drama, comedy and superhero action blended together to form an action film which was Robert Downey Jr’s finest yet.

The MCU superheroes are a welcome respite from the real life crisis we face. These movies fulfil our sense of justice as they fight against the Goliaths of this world or another and we feel just as strong and immortal as them, just for a little while.rvel-cinematic-universe-movies.
