It takes immense courage to come out and tell in front of the media who are all strangers how she was raped. This courage was shown by the Orissa Nun who was raped during the mob frenzy. Wearing a veil on her face she faced the media.

“They came to our house where I was staying with Father Thomas. I was slapped and threatened and taken out of the house. There were three men who threatened to kill me by throwing me on smouldering fire. Then they threw me in a verandah full of plastic, tore my blouse and clothes and one man stood on my right hand other on my left hand and the third raped me.

When I tried to get up the second man tried to rape me, by that time a mob of 40/50 people came. Some wanted to kill me some wanted to parade me naked in the village. I was paraded naked partially and when I saw two policemen I requested them to help me, they refused. I saw them talking to one of my attackers. They were on friendly terms.

when I went to register a FIR I was made to sit in between two policemen. After the medical check-up I was asked whether I was interested in registering a FIR and whether I knew the consequences. The original FIR was not accepted as it was too long The copy of the shorter one was not given”.

Now she is demanding a CBI inquiry as she has no faith that justice will be done to her by the Orissa Government. It becomes imperative now that an impartial inquiry be done and truth be made public.
