The Dual Personality

Inside me resides someone,
He however has two faces, not one.
Both of them are a part of me,
But the contrast lies in their attitude you see.

The first one to name is Mr. Pessimist,
Adversary to him stands Mr. Optimist.
The evergoing clash between them is a part of my life,
Sometimes is joy,sometimes strife.

Mr. Pessimist shouts- “You are useless, no good at all.”,
It gives him immense pleasure to see my downfall.
Always pulling my leg, when I’m trying to stand,
Under his reign, things can never be grand.
He always chides me, taunts me and bades me to do wrong,
With him around, I know I may not last long.

Suddenly from somewhere, I hear a jolly baritone,
Which makes me feel, I’m not alone.
“I’m with you! Come on!” says he.
Hearing this voice, I’m filled with glee.
I turn around to look at the speaker,
And find Mr. Optimist smiling at me without a flicker.

Says I- “You are the one who rescued me from the blues.
Always there to loosen the noose.
For me you are the greatest pal,
You help me swallow life’s bitter gall.
You smoothened the road filled with bumps,
You helped me raise, when I was down in the dumps!”

Slowly, I close my eyes for a while and wonder,
Which of the two shall I choose I ponder.
When my eyes open, the haze melts away,
Life which before seemed tragic now is happy and gay.
My decision is made, gone away are my woes,
By the way, which one of the two do you think I chose ?
