Suarez Squeezes English Chances At The World Cup—We Take A Bow

England fans and loyalists have been let down—yet again. Perhaps, they have been thirsting since 1966’s glorious win against West Germany to lift the FIFA soccer World Cup. Now last night’s (rather, morning’s) game was a damper no less. Who thought that the Queen’s men would go down to Uruguay? Well, no sneers but England has been whitewashed out and perhaps their defeat to Italy in the first game was signal enough on how they could fare. Jonathan Haynes @JonathanHaynes, one among the many disappointed fans tweet, “Barney Ronay rightly says that it is everything wrong with England: the defence, the midfield, the attack, the tactics, etc.”

Amid all the hype that the biggies such as Steven Gerrard and Wayne Rooney garner, we wonder why they always fail in the biggest of big platforms. First Spain and now England, will we even see any of the hyped giants make it to the next stage, leave alone the semis! The blame game on the team and the players has already started pouring in via tweets. While some are pointing the gun at captain Gerrard some clearly seem to defend him. Ned Zelic @NedZelic tweets, “Don’t understand why Gerrard is getting all the blame for Suarez’s 2nd goal – it was clearly a positional error from Jagielka.”

Now either ways, one person who has emerged as the star is THE SUAREZ. As Major League Soccer @MLS tweets, “Suarez + #URU put a dagger in #ENG’s World Cup hopes.”Even hard core England fans have tweeted praise for Suarez. Lucy Bennett ‏@RocandDolltweets, “Morning! Still feeling defeated but #Suarez wow! Class victory goal #England vs Uruguay #football.”

Some still nurse their ego in the blinding yet dumb fact that Suarez is a Liverpool players. The sarcasm was evident in this tweet from Excuse My French ‏@kaperzack, “Yesterday #Suarez demolished England. It’s funny because they give him a home and a job.”
