The new s appearing today in the presses that “La Nina” conditions are setting in, as experts from our Met Deptt. Suggest. Literally “the little girl” in Spanish, La Nina denotes cooling of Pacific waters that cause heavier end-season falls. Rains in flood-bowl states have sharply raised crop averages, pointing to a bumper harvest. If rains come in September this year in short spells, even if heavy, no worry. But prolonged downpours, even if light, cab affect harvest. It would be disastrous if this pattern continues in the month of October. We are in for a big trouble on Farm production.
Well its warning signal and we must take this seriously.
The good news is that the weather men are analyzing the data of neighboring countries like Pakistan and China in which we have experienced large scale devastating by the rains/ floods. The word of caution from the weathermen is that what ever they might do but they would not be able to give exact prediction much before than 15 days at best and this may not leave planners to take strategic corrective decision as far as the crops are concerned.
It clearly means that India will have to watch this very carefully.
On the second thought and in lighter vain I think if rains are little unkind then we are in to witness total washout of CWG-2010 and this precisely Sheila Dixit may be wishing having failed to give Delhites what they ought to get in return of the games, the left over infrastructure that would improve the Delhi as world class city. Well this may be argued by all concerned that this year excessive rains have played spoilt sport and resist Delhi of earning good reputation from Sporting fraternity and claims for holding next Olympics.
