Sachin Tendulkar, the gem of India now officially becomes a ‘Bharat Ratna’

Sachin Ramesh Tendulkar, the God of Cricket who has been acknowledged as the greatest cricketer of all times was presented with the highest civilian award Bharat Ratna on 4 February 2014. He represented India for 24 years as a cricketer and has many records to his name including the only batsman to have scored 100 centuries.  After receiving the Bharat Ratna Sachin said that this award is his “greatest honor” and that he will continue to play cricket for the country and will try his best to give the people of India a reason to smile. He received this award from President Pranab Mukherjee at a ceremony in Durbar Hall of Rashtrapati Bhavan.

With Sachin another great personality, Prof Chintamani Nagesa Ramachandra Rao was also awarded with Bhara Ratna. At the age of 79, he is currently working as the Head of the Scientific Advisory Council to the Prime Minister of India.  The award Bharat Ratna came into existence in 1954 and the two personalities Prof. Rao and Sachin Tendulkar joined the 41 eminent personalities club who have received this award since.

Bharat Ratna is conferred for the highest degree of national service that includes arts, literature, science, as well as recognition of public service of the highest order. Sachin Tendulkar became the first sportsperson to receive this award. Earlier he received Padma Vibhushan, country’s second highest civilian award in 2008.

After receiving Bharat Ratna, Sachin also congratulated scientist C N R Rao for his achievement. A testimonial about Sachin Tendulkar also stated that Sachin is a true ambassador of India and his records are supreme and that they cannot be easily broken.

Some of the records that Sachin Tendulakar has to his name are 15 Man of the Series and 62 Man of the Match awards in ODI Matches. He is the first cricketer to make a double century in an ODI, the only cricketer to have scored 100 centuries in International cricket.

Some notable awards that are presented to this great man are Arjuna Award in 1994, Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna in 1997, Padma Shri in 1999, Padma Vibhushan in 2008 and Bharat Ratna in 2014.

Sachin played almost 1500 matches including Test, ODI, FIRST CLASS CRICKET and List A Cricket. He is as called by many the Master Blaster, Little Master and the God of Cricket in the true sense.
