India would go for a fresh poll to elect new President in next four months. As I earlier had published an article here that Kalam is reluctant to go for another term in office. But the developing combination of political circumstances is indicating that Dr APJ Abdul Kalam may get a second term in office.

The report also said that Kalam might not be unenthusiastic to go with the political compulsion if he would be the consensus choice of political parties. In the year 2002, Kalam was almost declared the consensus candidate and had got the support from both the then ruling NDA and the Congress too.

On July 25, Kalam’s current term is going to be ended and the election notification is likely to be announced possibly in the latter half of June.

The BJP leadership have openly announced that Kalam should continue in the office for second term. According to the Statesman report, the Samajwadi Party may also support Kalam for a second term for Kalam. Mulayam Singh was the first political leader who had suggested the candidature of Dr Kalam for the 2002 presidential poll. It was reported that Mulayam actually wanted to make Kalam as the President to get support from the minority community.

It is also being reported that many political parties soon would decide in favor of Kalam except the Left parties. Left parties had put up INA leader Dr Lakshmi Saigal against Kalam in last election.

According to a report, the TDP, AIADMK, DMK and the MDMK may support support Kalam for second term.

Kalam enjoys great popularity among the young generation in India and the intelligentsia section as well. So the political parties may round for Dr Kalam to get support from younger voters.

The Samajwadi Party and some other parties may find it profitable to support Kalam’s candidature in the coming election in Uttar Pradesh. Minorities play vital role in the Assembly Elections in UP. Uttar Pradesh forms the strongest Electoral College for the presidential polls with each MLA’s vote being comparatively highest in value.
