Pakistani sensations in Bollywood

Pakistan’s brush with Bollywood goes a long way back. If we are to trace the history of this significant association, then Noor Jehan is the first actress whose name comes to the fore. Over the years, the “at loggerhead” nations have maintained a fairly cordial relation, in so far as films and culture are concerned. Let us now take a look at the Pakistani actors who have sought a career in Bollywood movies.

Ali Zafar

He had sent the teenage crowd into frenzy with popular numbers like ‘Rangeen’ or ‘Channo’. When Ali Zafar decided to enter Bollywood as an actor, his dream run continued. From ‘Tere Bin Laden’ to the recently released ‘London, Paris, New York’, the singer turned actor has come a long way. In Zafar’s own words, his Bollywood sojourn is on the right track.

Atif Aslam

His mesmerizing voice and unshaven looks had set hearts aflutter. He had got the whole sub-continent humming to his popular numbers. Acting, it goes without saying, would have been Atif Aslam’s next best choice in career. After a power packed performance in the Pakistani movie ‘Bol’, the actor is all set for his Bollywood debut.

Salma Agha

While Salma Agha may not have appeared in a multitude of Bollywood movies, the actress managed to create a mark with the very few that we have seen her in. Agha’s performance in Nikaah even fetched a Filmfare award nomination.

Mona Lisa

This 32-year old actress from Pakistan was selected by Bollywood producer Bhushan Kumar after the latter blatantly dismissed seventy people over a single screen test session. Mona Lisa made her Bollywood debut opposite Himesh Reshammiya in the 2008 movie ‘Kajraare’.

Adeel Ch

After Ali Zafar and Atif Aslam, it’s turn for another Pakistani singer, Adeel, to enter Bollywood as an actor. Adeel’s brush with B-town, goes sometime back. The singer has already lent his voice in movies like Juggad and Kismat Konnection. Adeel is now shooting for his debut movie, ‘Rhythm’ produced by Vivek Kumaar of ‘Lakeer’ fame. The movie with Adeel in the lead role is all set to release in 2012.

Veena Malik

Veena Malik has the tendency of being in news for all the wrong reasons. While not much is known of Veena’s acting capabilities, her personal life has made head lines time and again. Over the years, she has been romantically linked to hunks on either side of the border like Shoaib Akhtar and Ashmit Patel. She is very soon to be seen in the reality show, ‘Veena ka Swyamvar and her upcoming movie ‘Zindagi 50-50’

Imran Abbas

For this Islamabad born architect, acting has never been a planned career option. Imran, who is a popular face on Pakistani Televsion, makes his Bollywood debut in an Akshaye Kumar starrer movie.

Meera

Meera’s name has popped in and out of gossip columns for different reasons over time. The Lahore born actress first irked the moral police over a kissing scene in the Mahesh Bhatt’s movie ‘Nazar’. Controversies and Meera, since then, have walked hand in hand. Gossips and stories apart, Meera is all set to make a comeback in Bollywood movies with ‘Paanch Ghantey mein Paanch Crore’.
