Pakistan scores over India in textile exports

Pakistan has showed better performance in textile exports to the European Union and the United states than India. According to WTO reports, Pakistan’s exports to US and the EU gone up by 12%. While, India has registered only 8% growth in its textile exports to the US in the same period.

However, the report also says that India has performed better than its previous year’s export by 1% in case of textile exports to EU.

Pakistan’s exports to Canada also gone up by 9% and India’s exports to Canada increased by 6%, which is 3% less than that of Pakistan. India recorded 16 per cent hike in textile exports to Japan compared with 7% decline in Pakistan’s exports.

Further, the data says that in the same time period, Bangladesh led the South Asian Region in textile growth. Bangladesh’s export to the US gone up by 22% and to the EU increased by 34 per cent.

However, India’s textile exports to the US surged by 8%, to EU by 13 per cent and to Canada by 6%. Indian exports to the Japanese market have experienced a 16% hike in textiles. It also gave clear indication that Indian exports have captured some basic textile space of Pakistan in Japanese market.
