Mumbai slums valued at billions, who care for dwellers?

India is ‘developing’. Our Prime Minister wants to change Mumbai into Shanghai. So, How can the government tolerate the slums in Mumbai, India’s financial capital.

Two thirds of Mumbai’s people live in slums. Bulldozers are on the road and looking for the slums. Who care for the lakh of people residing in the slums? Mumbai is getting a facelift and Mumbaikers, who are living in slums, are getting living threats.

Shanti Nagar is one of the destinations for destruction. The slums are destroyed here. The Shanti Nagar will become a jogging drive in some times. Mumbai’s police were out in full force at the demolition and the slum dwellers had ‘one day notice’ to move out from there.

The Dharavi slum, Asia’s largest slum, will get a facelift too. It will change as an engine for economic development.

The people, who are seeing Mumbai as ‘slum-free’ by 2020, are working fast towards it. They are promising council flats to the registered slum-dwellers but what will happen to the people who are not registered is a giant question.
