Modi inches a step closer towards the top slot

In what can be considered as a major boost for Narendra Modi, the firebrand image in BJP the leader has been able to win the six Lok Sabha and assembly seats. Compare this to the weak show put forward by Nitish Kumar who lost the seat in Bihar for which the by-elections were held.

The Congress could not win any seat thus creating fear in the mind of leaders about the prospects for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. BJP was able to win all the six seats and that too with comfortable margin. This win will help portray Narendra Modi as a strong leader who can create a name for himself, when it comes to leading the party for the 2014 Lok Sabha polls.

The National Executive of BJP is to meet in Goa by this weekend and the comprehensive victory for Narendra Modi could not have come at a better time. Speculations are ripe that the firebrand leader may be asked to head the campaign committee of the party for the upcoming elections.

Lalu Parsad of RJD is also breathing easy in Bihar as he was able to defeat the candidate put forward by Nitish Kumar and that too by a comfortable margin of over 1.30 lakh votes.

The BJP was quick enough to cash upon the victory it was able to secure in the by-elections. Narendra Modi who was in New Delhi for a Chief Minister’s conference immediately spoke about the anger the people have for the anti poor policies of Congress. The President of BJP, Rajnath Singh too echoed these sentiments when he pointed out that the time has come for the Congress to feel the heat and they will suffer a huge defeat in the upcoming elections.

The voices of difference that had been echoing in the party will now be regaled to the back ground as leaders who were thinking of overshadowing Narendra Modi will now have to go quiet. Interestingly, only a few days ago, Lal Krishan Advani had pointed out that Shivraj Singh Chauhan, the Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh was a competent leader and had done good enough to be compared to Atal Bihari Vajpayee.

This comparison in itself brings out the infighting in the party and the win of Narendra Modi will prove to be a deterrent for such leaders. However, it will be good for the party and country in general if the party thinks about the good of the nation in general than personal interests of selected leaders.

Infighting in any party is not good for that party any the country in general as this only weakens democracy and gives rise to dissident voices that can spoil the party and demoralize the cadres who work at ground level.
