When the baby’s shifted in the womb, his hand came out of the uterus, so the Doctors’ performing Cesarean section were left with no option but to drag the hand out, pulling the baby such that his arm was nearly severed off, the wound which than was infected resulting in the death of the baby by septicemia.
When Babli Meghwal 25 a dalit, coming from Kelvara village, had come to Pannadhai Hospital in Udaipur a government hospital she and her husband could never had even thought of such negligence in their worst nightmare, they had reposed full trust in the Doctors but after the mishap The Doctor-in Charge Radha Rastogi tried to hush up and did not informed the parents about the mishap but kept the poor baby in nursery with his open wound for two days, not allowing his parents to see him, than when his mother saw him for the first time she noticed the wound which was still bleeding she was curtly told that their baby was born with the injury.
According to the hospital Babli’s sonogram report revealed that the baby was upside down which was normal but on the verge of delivery the baby’s position shifted and the doctors decided to go in for a C-section. It was during this time that a doctor accidentally cut the fleshy part of the baby’s arm.
Obviously the grieved parents demanded an explanation but the hospital administration tried to hush up the matter, in fact the preliminary report also gave clean chit to the guilty doctors,on the basis of post-mortem report which only mentioned that the death was due to septicaemia not mentioning what caused it.
With this clean chit it is possible that the guilt could never be proved and the guilty would obviously go unpunished but how will they ever silence that little voice-their conscience which will forever remind them of their action.
My heartfelt condolence to the parents of poor baby. May they get justice but it will be an uphill task.
