Census 2011 reveals the shocking gender bias with child sex ratio of 914. It’s the lowest-ever since independence. It was 927 in 2001 and 976 in 1961. However, since then it has declined drastically. The overall sex ratio had increased to 940 against 933 in 2001. But the continuous preference for a male child has made India a hostile place to be born as a girl.

As per the new census, the population of India rose to 1.21 billion, with a 17.4% increase since 2001.
