The infiltration rate from across the border in April has gone three times up in comparison with the same month in 2006. The Army Chief General J J Singh has said on the three-fold increase of infiltration that the ISI and some people from the Pakistan Army is helping the militants to infiltrate into Indian parts from across the LoC.

J J Singh said that Indian army has some reports that give indication that militants get supports from Pakistan. The report also reveals that some elements of the Pakistan Army and the Inter-Services Intelligence are continuously helping the militants to enter into Indian Territory illegally.

The Defence Minister A K Antony has also accepted that the rate of infiltration has gone up in recent past and the Indian army is closely monitoring the the ground situation near the border. The army would also review the infiltration incidents for the months of May, June and July.

According to the Army’s latest intelligence assessment, there were 79 incidents of infiltration reported in April this year. In April 2006, only 27 terrorists had managed to cross the border.

However, the first three months of the year 2007 were comparatively peaceful as just 17 terrorists reportedly managed to enter into the Indian part.

During the recently organized Asian Security Summit in Singapore, the Defence Minister A K Antony had criticized Pakistan and said that Pakistan needs to have more imaginative approaches if it really needs to resolve the Kashmir problem.

He also had said that Pakistan should immediate stop favoring the ongoing cross-border terrorism. Pakistan is bound to its commitment of not supporting terrorism from ‘territory under its control’ and it should deliver the commitment.
