India is all set to have World’s best Tsunami warning system soon. It will start its operation from September 2007. It will provide alerts about the massive tidal waves in just 20 minutes if any disturbance occurs under the sea or on seabed.

In just ten minutes, the system will record the magnitude of the disturbance and will start the process and analyzing data in another ten minutes to disseminate the alert.

As we know, Tsumani comes due to earthquake, landslides or volcanic eruptions at the seabed. Kapil Sibbal, the Union minister for earth sciences has claimed that the Tsunami warning system, worth of Rs 125 crore, would be the best in the world. It would help, later, to issue a better forecast too.

He said that

we will keep our promise of giving the country a world class tsunami warning system by September 2007. The Indian system would only issue alert warning after analysing data from the bottom pressure recorders.

Important devices are being installed in the Bay of Bengal region and the Arabian Sea. Moreover, the Automatic tide gauges have been installed in the Bay of Bengal and Indian Ocean to monitor tidal activities.

The mission of installing Tsunami warning system has also roped in Indian space research organisation (ISRO) to set up the satellite-based communication process to get real time data from the tide gauges as well as from the bottom pressure recorders.
