India shows no concern on China’s proposed dam on Brahmputra river

Chines government has planned to build a dam on the River Brahmaputra in Tibet. After this decision taken by china the concerns have gone up in the region and Bangladesh has expressed its concern over the proposed dam on the river. On the other hand, India has said that there is no cause for alarm over China’s plans to construct a dam on the Brahmaputra River.

Water Resources Minister Saifuddin Soz told reporters that the proposed dam in Tibet would not pose any kind of threat to India. India has evaluated the matter and found that there is no situation of alarm. Later he opted to say nothing on the concerns showed by Bangladesh.

He said that China had planned to generate 40MW of power from the dam project on the river. Soz said further that India and China would likely to exchange information on hydrology on regular basis. This is not a situation of getting worry.

Earlier, environmentalists from Bangladesh have said that China’s plan would result in a major ecological disaster for Bangladesh. Bangladesh would see the bad impact of the dam in coming years.

Indian environment analysts are remained silent on the impact of the dam on Indian territories because Brahmaputra considers as the lifeline for northeast region.
