India becomes 3rd biggest GSM market in world

Indian cellular phone users are growing with a greater pace as Indian GSM companies have signed up 5 million new users in the month of November.

The GSM customers have been gone beyond 100 million mark. It made India as the third biggest market in terms of GSM services in the world.

Low call rates are luring customers but still mobile phone density is below than 14 percent in the country of more than billion populations.

According to the Cellular Operators’ Association 5.044 million users signed up in November only. It was 4.727 million in the month of October.

The GSM base in Russia is 152.2 million that is ahead of India. China has the largest base as the country has 401.7 million GSM users.

India’s mobile user base, including GSM customers as well as CDMA customers, is 142.3 million. However, the companies providing CDMA services yet not have reported its numbers.

Bharti Airtel Ltd. is India’s largest provider of this service with the base of 30.26 million users.

Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd. has expanded its base to 22.97 million.

Hutchison Essar Ltd. ranked third in the list with its base of 22.27 million.
