Greenpeace…? A Guide for all Front-line Campaigners

greenpeace rankings uIgTl 16329Some call us Green peas (a guy told me he eats them), some think we are a notorious lot trying to get attention and, walking on the paths of aliens, trying to take over the world. While others are just plain ignorant…or just too confused to form a judgment. DDRs of Greenpeace are the backbone of the organization, most of the new recruiters feel awkward when they meet a rustic person and many a times even the most experienced of us get disillusioned.

Know Your Organization

Greenpeace is an NGO (Non-Government Organization) , with presence in nearly 44 countries and a history going 38 years back you simply can’t say that you haven’t heard about us. Most of us live a very protected life and I’m not just talking about the billionaires or the IT guys in big cars, I’m talking about each and every person who gets to have a meal three times a day, gets a ride to work and back home, and has a roof over his/her head. But not everyone is so lucky…Greenpeace is trying to bridge that big bad gap. Respect your organization, get your facts right, believe in the work that you are doing if you want to convince others.

Confidence is the Key

I know it takes some time but eventually one gets a grasp of it. Man, ever since he has come to exist, has taken so much from the environment, created and destroyed so many things that a whole lifetime will fall short to count them. Progress and development are not bad, Greenpeace supports it but not at the cost of precious lives…not at the cost of environment. Greenpeace stands tall and defends the environment wherever and whenever it can like a true soldier defending his kingdom. We do campaigns and activities so that certain laws and policies can be established, we make people aware of these issues so that they can follow the law, take initiative and be responsible for the world which is as much theirs as it’s ours. Always talk to people on their level; you are not beneath them or above them.

Don’t Get Rattled When They Start Talking

Many people tell us, you should be doing this and you should be doing that, “You know, the place where I live… why are you not working on this issue?” Just talking about it, thinking and planning on it is not enough. You need to take action, an initiative for others to follow. Greenpeace finds solutions and works on global issues, by taking action! When will you? How much time do people need? Progress and development never required so much time, why does saving the environment require so much of pondering? You don’t have to sign a treaty or reveal a national secret; just take a teeny tiny step to help the environment, they don’t think twice when they go out for movies, gobble down fancy food and juggle with shopping bags.

Be Polite, Talk Straight

If you visit our website or even Google us, you will find the kind of work we have done and are doing, it takes a lot of patience, guts and resilience to do what we do. Campaigning is not taking to the streets and holding out a banner, it is about having endless discussions with companies and lobbying with government after a proper research, communicating with media and (here comes the tough one) talking to people. We visit educational institutes, corporate companies for lectures, mass presentations and we also aware people on the streets. Our recent achievements in campaigns on Sustainable Agriculture, Climate Change and Electronic Waste are out there for all to measure and weigh our strength and reach.

If you don’t know us, come forward and hit us on the search engines, watch us on the electronic media or read about us in the newspaper. Never argue, insult or pressurize people, if they really understand and support Greenpeace views they will take initiative.

Stand tall, feel proud and speak out.
