Greed

Today I attended a sales people public forum and something that was said in the meeting really captured my attention.

“Sales people who makes great sales have three characteristics, greedy, selfish and money hungry,” not in a bad way according to what was discussed but in a way that will propel them toward improving their sales.

While that discussion was on, a previous debate I was involved in came to mind, during that time someone had raised a concern that everything human beings do is inspired by greed, at the end of the day though, we did not have a final word on how true that is.

Back to today’s statement, does this affect the sales people only, or everyone else who want to succeed in life and how true is it?

The person who thought greed is a driving factor to how we do our things indicated that with greed we plan for today and days ahead. For instance let me ask you a question, why do go to work every day, why do you look at cars that you don’t own and decide you will work extra hard to own yours one day? What do you call wanting so much that you cannot even handle?

To what extend this is true for us, I cannot tell, but for most politicians and leaders this is their life. Tell me the last politician you saw that was not greedy, selfish and money oriented? Which explains why almost all parliamentarians here in Kenya are against paying taxes and only want to give their money to charity. And while they do it for charity, it could be for selfish reasons, because they do it hoping it will come in handy the next time they are soliciting for votes. The aspect of greed is reflected in their need for more allowances.

Look at Institutions, Company’s and other areas of our lives. It is an open forum, on my part I don’t want to imagine of myself as greedy, what do you think, is greed and selfishness apart of our lives and how do you think this three aspects affect us.
