The Former Prime Minister of India Chandrashekhar died on Sunday morning at around 8.45 a.m in Delhi’s Apollo Hospital. He was 80. He was suffering from bone cancer.

Some two-and-a-half months ago, he had been admitted to the Indraprastha Apollo Hospital. Shekhar is survived by two sons.

Dr Rakesh Chopra, senior consultant, oncology told media persons that he was suffering from multiple myloma. Earlier on Saturday, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh had visited him and had spent about 20 minutes with him.

Chandrashekhar was Prime Minister of India from November 10, 1990 to June 21, 1991 with the support of Congress Party. He was the sitting member of Lok Sabha from Ballia in Uttar Pradesh. He was the founder president of the Samajwadi Janata Party (Rashtriya).

The different political leaders have condoled on the death of Chandrasekhar. According to the report, his body would be kept at his official residence in Delhi. Manmohan Singh called him a truly secular nationalist who was always committed to the welfare of the people and to national development.
