Almost two days later the UN has only landed one plane and the US is still claiming they haven’t gotten approval to land a cargo plane of food and equipment aid.It’s horrible, but China will help them out after all China supported them when the Government ordered the beating and killing of the Monks last year.

Burma is in peril and the world is still gouging its mood. they did exactly the same when monks were on the streets against the military oppression. I wonder when the world powers, NATO and US, can intrude in Afghanistan and Iraq to destroy them are now waiting for an invitation to help Burma out from this difficult situation. Dropping aid, without Burma permission, means no breaching of a sovereign country. this is not an attack but help. so the world community and UN should go on dropping the aid to the suffering people irrespective of Burmese no.

If anyone has any contacts to anyone in Burma, please let me know. We are trying to contact our family in Yangon. We’ve not had any word from them since the storm. No phone contact and no internet contact. We’ve been trying to contact the International Red Cross, the U.N., etc., but everyone is too busy. We are particularly worried about our mother and father, who are in their seventies and may not have the food and water they need.

there is no doubt that it is a humanitarian disaster. the burmese junta by stopping foreign aid and whatever aid has come through from reaching the people is actually an attempt to get the highly controversial referendum passed that would give the military 25% of the seats in the burmese legislature and also a veto over legislative decisions. it also calls for a ban on citizens from contesting elections who are married to foreign nationals like aung sung su kyii. it knows the lesser number of voter turnout would mean more positive results for the military junta.

The UN must authorize use of force if necessary if the Burmese military government continues to ignore Western offers of help for the Cyclone Nargis victims. Over a 100,000 died in the cyclone and this is almost 1/3 of the total no of people who died in the Asian Tsunami. The catch however is China. Would it allow such a resolution to pass in the UN?

The military government in Burma has so far chosen to ignore worldwide pressure, appeals, condemnation for its human rights abuses in the country and ruled Burma using an iron fist. It is therefore no surprise that the highly paranoid government is disallowing international aid to reach the victims of the cyclone that killed almost a quarter of a million poor Burmese people. The only way to make the junta come round is by use of brute force authorized by the UNO.

It is a god-sent opportunity for the freedom loving international community to overthrow the military regime of Myanmar and install democracy. The excuse this time can be Myanmar’s refusal to allow international aid to reach to those affected by the cyclone because of political reasons. The world cannot sit and watch when over a hundred thousand died in the disaster, millions have become homeless without food and shelter and millions more standing the risk of an epidemic outbreak because of lack of aid, food, proper water and sanitation. The situation is dire and the world must not miss this opportunity.

Bomb the Burmese dictatorship out of the country and send in foreign troops to rescue not only those who have been affected by the cyclone, but by the regime itself like 100s of 1000s of political prisoners, forced slaves etc.

Though this is a pretty hard question to answer, something needs to be done to alleviate the misery of those affected by the cyclone. Interfering in other nation’s affairs isn’t right but this time, it needs to be done as the people need aid to survive, cope and rebuild their lives. To hell with the junta, the U.N. must get on with the rescue efforts in full earnest.
