Canadian government has come to understand that equal marriage doesnâ€™t harm anyone. It is ok to make life better for some people. A generous and inclusive explanation of marriage actually strengthens the institution of marriage. Excluding same-sex couples from civil marriage is discomfort, resistance to change and moral judgment. Let them live how they want to live.

The institution of marriage in these countries is already in a free-fall downward spiral. Giving permission to same-sex marriage may have actually slowed the decline of heterosexual marriage in these countries.

It’s ok, they accepted the same sex marriage but what about the question of divorce in such marriages? Divorce is an inevitable consequence of marriage, and divorces between gay partners would definitely raise legal and ethical questions in society.

The institution of marriage was created in the society to protect and promote procreation. It was aimed to promote a better standard of living throughout a child’s rearing period. Now, the concept of same sex marriage would open up the institution for non-traditional purposes, it would certainly debase the institution of opposite sex marriage.

How can you go ahead and give a formal sanction to same sex marriage? Surprisingly, people here are talking about same sex marriage as an institution but I am sorry to say that no social concept until date defines same sex marriage as an institution. An institution comes across something which is generally accepted in the society irrespective the legal obligation. Here it is the law which sanctions same sex marriage but it does not mean that the society has accepted it .Thus, as per social rationale, it would be good to define it as same sex wedding, rather than impending to it as an institution.

Why are we so perplexed about same-sex marriages? I mean cant we just live and let live? It is time that we embrace such decisions with full maturity. I cannot help but praise Canadians on this front.
