New York Yankees catcher Ivan Rodriguez left Wednesday night’s game against Texas after being hurt on collision at home plate to end the second inning.

Rodriguez winced and writhed on the field for more than a minute after Rangers outfielder David Murphy slammed into him while trying to score from second on a hit by Ian Kinsler. Rodriguez’s injury was not immediately known.

It appeared from television replays that Murphy, who was out, ran his knee hard into Rodriguez’s shin guard during the collision. Murphy was on the ground for a few moments, too, but returned to the game.

Jose Molina came in to bat for Rodriguez in the third. He singled and later scored.

The Yankees acquired Rodriguez last week from Detroit after catcher Jorge Posada’s season-ending shoulder injury.
