World Teachers' Day- A Thanks Giving Occasion
September, 5 is celebrated as Teachers’ Day across many parts of the world. This day is an occasion to honour the teachers for their special contribution to the society in shaping future of humanity. No one who has achieved success does so without acknowledging the help of his teachers; the wise acknowledge this help with humility and gratitude. In fact teaching is a noble profession that teaches all other professions. Someone has rightly said ‘I am indebted to my parents for living but to my teacher for living well.

Saint Kabir has eulogised greatness of teachers in his own language:
‘ Sab dharti kagaz karun, lekhani sab banrai
Saat samander ki masi karun, guru gun likhe na jaye’
(Even if the whole earth becomes a paper, all forests become a pen and seven seas become ink, it will not be possible to write the great qualities of a guru)

Teachers leave indelible impression upon minds of students and specially children who consider him the epitome of perfection. Everybody in his/her childhood plays teacher-student game. In this game children not only dress like their teacher, they also mimic their teacher’s voice tone and copy their mannerism.
Unfortunately, in this techno savvy world respect for teachers is dwindling. Teaching is not a lost art, but regard for it is a lost tradition. The present generation explores the world on computer. The pen and paper generation is fast disappearing; modern day students learn by playing video games, by listening music and surfing the net. Video conferencing, e learning, distant learning has created distance between teacher and student. Whatever computer may do, it can never be substitute for teacher. Computer is only a knowledge bank sans personality; teacher inspires and instils values in pupils, their role can never be underestimated.
