A Mexican housewife was sentenced to more than nine years in jail after she pleaded guilty to using two children to smuggle cocaine into Britain, the customs agency said Friday.

Elisa Vazquez Sanchez was accompanied by a 13-year-old boy and an 11-year-old girl when she was stopped at London’s Heathrow Airport on her way from Mexico on March 11, the agency said in a statement.

Officials at the airport found about 20 pounds of cocaine taped to the children’s bodies.

The agency said Judge Jonathan Lowen at London’s Isleworth Crown Court sentenced Sanchez, 40, to 9 1/2 years of prison Thursday.

Sanchez’s relationship to the children, who are Mexican residents, was not disclosed. The kids are now in the care of social services.
