Witnesses say Ethiopian troops backing Somalia’s shaky government have shelled residential areas in northeastern Mogadishu and killed at least 10 people.
Shamsa Kheyre says he was one of more than a dozen people wounded when a mortar landed near a group of about 40 people seeking refuge behind a wall. She says she saw six people killed, including a child and his mother.
Medina Hospital’s deputy director, Dr. Dahir Dhere, says 19 people were admitted with injuries but a 2-year-old girl died immediately after she was brought to the hospital.
Mogadishu resident Shekhey Nur Ahmed said Tuesday that he and his friends collected the bodies of four people who died in Monday’s shelling.
