Corruption grips the country
Will I be able to make change in the country by practising my fundamental right in the 15th general election? Can I change the system by voting my favourite party in the election? These are the questions came into my mind since the dates of general election were officially announced on the month of April.
Everybody believes that practising our franchise we can make difference in the country. As the aphorism goes, "one vote can make difference." But the unanswered question is how much millions of Indians made difference in the country since Independence? I am sure that some of them have been exercising their franchise since 1952 when the general election was held for the first time in India. Did they make difference in the country? The honest answers are 'yes', 'no', and 'may be' as the Indians are fond of saying that.
India is 62 year old independent. Some brilliant Indians are keen of flattering it by saying India is still young therefore much of its developments have not taken place due slow growth of economy like any other countries. Saying is crap. 62 years of Independence is not young I suppose. We can not compare with underdeveloped countries which India is not. Comparison leads no where. The reasons being not able to come up like other developed countries are not with the people but with the governance. Corruptions, scams, cheating and scandals are deeply rooted in from the top level to the bottom. It seems cancer of the government which are incurable. Are we then responsible for that?
To be candid. I am a 27 year old. I would have exercised my fundamental right twice by now. But neither in State Assembly nor in general election so far have I voted. Not because I do not believe in political system or fundamental right. It is because I do not have faith in the political party. Even if I exercise my franchise what will I make difference in the society? I am totally committed to bring change in the country. My commitment and dedication is futile as i do not have the power to change our society. I have been seeing with own my eyes for 27 years how much development have taken place in my area. Sweet promises are distant dreams of the people. My personal opinion in voting is like preparing a candidate to commit grave sin because after getting power he/she will be master of corruption and scams/scandals. Hope, by not voting I am not violating any law of the land. Not voting any candidate is personal decision. In short, I do not believe in voting.
Democracy is said to be for the people, of the people and by the people. Is it right and correct definition of it? It is perfectly defined and designed but in practise no longer easy job. It is high time to redefine it as for the politician, of the politician and by the politician. In short, democracy is PPP.
Indeed, if people of India collectively do not make effort to change the system there will be no change at all in the country in the years to come. Corruption and scams will more and more spread like virus everywhere.
Let us take into our hearts seriously the slogan "Change we can believe in" which was extolled by millions of Americans when newly elected Barak Obama said in his campaign.
