Why Is Congressman Weiner Silent About The New York Mosque?
Politicians, especially liberal ones, tend to be smug bastards who think they know better than everyone else and "the people" should simply shut up and let the adults regulate their lives, tax and spend their income and so on, because - you see? - they are endowed with superior abilities to dictate the lives of the less folk in the name of some ostensible "common good".

And Congressman Anthony Weiner of New York City ranks at the top of this self-righteous shit-pile. This is a thuggish, arrogant man who makes up for his youth of being teased as a tiny, skinny kid named 'Weiner' through posing as some self-confident pious legislator who is better than anyone else and knows when to tell people off.
This guy is a Grade A asshole with a consistent smug look on his face. He finds himself amusing and funny, but is a "laughing at you" buffoon. And, a trait that makes politicians even more insufferable, he harbors high ambitions to one day be mayor of New York City.
One of his trademark annoyances is that he is a Zionist fanatic. Weiner may not be as pro-Israel as he lets on, but his constituents are and this guy was born to be a vapid politician so excessive pandering comes natural.
And as par for the course, he opines on anything dear to Zionists' "hearts". He apparently finds it his remit to call for the firing of a Columbia University (which is not in his distract) professor accused of being mean to those disadvantaged Zionists and he tired to block the Palestinian Authority delegation from entering the United Nations a few years back and stated that they should take their "little Palestinian terrorist bags" and go home. And he loves to speak about "Eretz Israel".
As I said, excessive pandering. Weiner never missed an opportunity to cheer Israeli wars, crimes and occupation and to attack Palestinians and Arabs. And he is so pathetic in trying to endear himself to Zionists hoodlums so much so that he recently waited in a car in the rain outside a far-right New York demonstration on behalf of Israel's Likud faction hoping to get to speak (they declined, finding even Weiner to moderate for their fascistic demo).
But there is one arena where Weiner has not commented: the contentious Islamic community center being built blocks, blocks!!!, away from "Ground Zero". Of course, it is blocks so it isn't, like, at Ground Zero. Blocks in New York is miles elsewhere:
Congressman Anthony Weiner of New York won plaudits from liberals across the country when he erupted on the House floor last week over GOP opposition to a bill that would help people sickened by 9/11. And Weiner has been widely hailed for his willingness to speak out boldly on issues important to liberals, such as the public option.
But there's one thing Weiner doesn't seem willing to talk about, or at least he hasn't yet: The highly controversial plan for an Islamic center and mosque near Ground Zero.
I can't get Weiner's office to say whether he defends plans to build the Islamic center or whether he sides with many Republicans and with the Anti-Defamation League and opposes it. I've been asking for two days now, and his office was promising yesterday to make him available to discuss the issue. But suddenly, his spokesman went quiet and stopped answering calls and emails.
The reticence of some New York politicans on this issue has been astonishing. While Mayor Michael Bloomberg has voiced strong support for plans to build the Islamic Center, others have been circumspect. Senator Chuck Schumer, for instance, has only said through a spokesman that he "doesn't oppose" the plan.
Weiner has positioned himself as something of a national figure, and has won plaudits from liberals nationally for his feisty, confrontational approach to Republicans and his willingness to fight it out on controversial issues. So it seems fair to wonder where the heck he is on the Islamic center.
I sincerely hope he plans to say something about it. And if he does come out strongly in favor of it, I'll be the first to give the man credit. But if he doesn't, maybe we should all stop clapping for him.
UPDATE, 2:58 p.m.: I inexplicably forgot to mention that Weiner harbors mayoral ambitions, which may explain his silence on the issue.
Kind of odd for a man who makes his views, and with childish loudness, on anything? Well...you see...Weiner recently married a Muslim woman. Yes the Israel-centric Zionist who thinks the New York Times and Amnesty International "hate Israel so much" fell in love with a Muslim and even though he would endear himself to Zionists by attacking the planned center, his love for his wife triumphs. But his silence in the face of anti-Islam prejudice which affects his wife (who has maintained her Muslim faith) in a city he one day wants to govern over is revealing cowardice and to what an awful, career ambitious-stricken, characterless individual Weiner is. This guy's a dick.
O' the cognitive divergence. The travails of being a politicians: it conflicts with your character so much. The conflict between what one really believes and the duty for career advancement to pander. An unenviable lot.
