Why Indian Roads are bad?
While travelling along Indian roads, irrespective of the state or region, it is very unfortunate to see that most of the roads are damaged and if in states like Kerala and Rajasthan, it will compell us to think whether they made road betwen holes or holes between roads.
Why the India success story is not inclusive? Why the roads are still bad? As we know, one of the main agenda in all the elections is related to the public convenience, especially on roads. I could not really understand what is pulling back the government machinery from making good roads. The roads in the state capitals are really bad and all the ministers passing through these roads and still this apathy to the city roads!!!
If we go through the government funding history on roads, there is no reason to believe that lack of fund is the reason behind it. Immediately after the completion roads are damaged beyond recognition that there was a road. I am compelled to believe that only lack of will from the part of the local governing bodies or administrative set up is the main reason behind the bad conditions of roads.
There are incidents in Kerala where people do a symbolic cultivation of banana trees in the road potholes. Many accidents happening not only in Kerala, but all over India, especially to the two-wheeler travellers due to bad roads. It is not a secret that immediately after completion of a road, the other departments like water, electricity or telephone start digging to lay their infrastructure and thereby damaging a major portion of the new road and never mind to reinstate it.
Political parties campaigning during elections speak about development of the country, but it is not visible and as we know it is visible only in the bank accounts of leaders and officials. Who will change this culture and when we can expect some good roads in the country which are useful? It is very important for states like Kerala and Rajasthan where tourism is the main revenue earner for them and we can expect drastic changes in the tourism sector if we have some good roads also.
