If translated the Hindi word ‘Jugad’ means to manage somehow, it implies the spirit to survive against heavy odds and to excel. This is something India inc. excels in - Creativity, determination and perseverance. All over the world Indians have gone with nothing more than the shirt on their back and have taken over the economy of the host countries but instead of plundering them like west, have made a positive contribution to them.
Indians are known for their philanthropy everywhere¬ – May it be Africa, south East Asia, Europe, America, Australia or Middle East. The racist attacks on Indians in Australia are also born out of the insecurity of natives as to the likely hood of Indians calling the shots at a later date.
India is a country of slum dogs but each of them has a burning desire to be a millionaire. In their own way, they excel. May he be Dr. Manmohan Singh, Dhiru Bhai Ambani, Narayan Murti, Mayawati or Amar singh (no offence meant to any one).
Coming From the most humble background they have nothing more than their creativity, entrepreneurship and determination to succeed. It is not for nothing that a nonentity like Laxmi Mittal became the steel baron and Sunil Mittal became telecom Tsar.
When India was denied technology it created its own may it be Param computers, cryogenic engines, missile technology, nuclear submarine, Chandrayan, IT industry, Pharma, space technology… we have succeeded against heavy odds.
When Kargil happened Indian army faced hell but recaptured its territory, every inch of it. So is Siachin. In Afghanistan we are working against very heavy odds. Rajasthan Punjab and Gujrat has very inhospitable weather still, wherever people from these regions have migrated they have shined. Despite its capacity and capability India has never tried to capture its neighbors.
Its foreign policy is defensive and inward looking. It has been invaded time and again but has made peace with invaders and has made them assimilate with its culture. Despite the low intensity war over decades and using every dirty trick in its armory, Pakistan establishment aided and abetted by China has failed to affect the thousand cuts and instead itself is on the verge of collapse.
This exercise is not of chest beating but to affirm that despite thousand problems faced by India, we’ll overcome the same some how and succeed. All I can say is: Hum honge kamyaab ekdin (we’ll be successful today and always in the times to come).
