WHY I WROTE THE ARTICLE ” HINDI SE PREM KAREIN , HINDI MEIN BOLEIN

”(LOVE HINDI ,SPEAK IN HINDI ) AND COMMENT ON THE COMMENTS RECEIVED

The article was written to highlight the fact that mother tongue is being ignore even in its land of birth . Probably , India is the only nation in the whole world which has gained the dubious distinction of having citizens who have scant respect for their mother tongue .Talk about Hindi and there will be North-South clashes .One of my very intelligent reader , in the eyes of Grace B , is trying to give the impression that since Hindi is not our national language we don’t need to embrace Hindi forgetting that our Father of The Nation Gandhi and other leaders wished it to be the language of all the Indians .But we are more comfortable in being second-rated versions of the Britishers .It’s a proven fact the countries which have not tried to retain their roots have vanished from the world map . We want to be the agents of globalization which has destroyed the cultural fabric of many nations making Gurgaon look more like Manhattan .It has become a national obsession , even in BPL sections ,to speak in English .Conversing in Hindi is now sign of backwardness .Show me a country where speaking in mother tongue / national language (or official language for some ) is considered sign of backwardness .

This is why we find our politicians , movie stars and elite class speaking English in American or British accent . Millions of English medium schools have mushroomed in various parts of the country which are churning out students -the clone of colonial impressions . And many who do not enjoy the privilege of studying in convent schools are taking help of the coaching institutions so that they can gain the ability to speak ” Tooti-Phooti Angrezzi ” (Broken English ).Worse entry of Hinglish has further created dent in the image of Hindi . I don’t think , as Grace B has pointed out, that gain of English over the national language is a good sign .It’s only a bad manifestation of globalization which is fast-eating the cultural attribute of various nations , to an extent that we have become like donkeys painted in one colour instead of being horses painted in different colours .World painted in rainbow colour would present a more better look than having everything painted in one colour !!

This sad state of affairs compelled me to pen this article in Roman script with a hope to gain access into certain Indian section which hates to read anything in Devanagari script .Writing in Devanagari would not only have looked odd on a English site but also prevented many people from going through it .And since I have had only Indians in mind it didn’t sound fit and proper for me to have its English version .Funnily, this was why it was ,in the first place , written in Roman script .The Roman script also came to preserve the joy of reading anything with its real impressions .

It’s one thing to ask for English version for people other than Indians but it’s quite a different thing to ask for English version for Indians who boast of treating Hindi as their mother tongue or ” one of their official language ” .The demand for translated version has brought in open what sort of respect it possesses in land of its origin .Speaking on broken English is a sign of being global and progress but to speak in Hindi is sign of backwardness and most likely to invite raised eyebrows in other parts of India .

Many comments have virtually tried to demolish my persona from hurling allegations of lifting the article to be owner of dubious credentials .I don’t want to tackle such so-called readers

who are hailing the article as ” shit ” without bothering to read the content .I leave this task to sensible readers to probe such comments in light of proper perspective .However, I wish to add that reproducing one’s own articles for the sake of getting better/additional response is no crime . Grace B has tried to give the impression that many of my articles are ” cut ’n’ paste ” posing as originals on my site . I beg to differ with Grace B in light of reason offered for the replication of my previous articles .My most of the articles have appeared on various sites and magazines .Having received huge response , or for that matter , a desire to bring it in realm of other readers , I found it safe to put it on Instablogs to gain more insight .

Don’t you think by reproducing for the sake of better readership is going to create greater awareness about certain issues rather than making the article confined to a particular magazine /website . If an particular article appears in Time or Newsweek , many cannot afford to buy the magazine .But if the same article is reproduced in in cheaper publication it enables the ordinary citizens to read it .

I must admit that a translated version would have worked wonders for the Western world and English-speaking class but I don’t find it fit and proper to do so for the Indians . After all, for how long , we will be reading translated version of our mother tongue ?
