Authorities are investigating who helped ex-Bosnian Serb leader Radovan Karadzic assume the false identity that helped him elude capture for more than a decade.

Bruno Vekaric, the spokesman for Serbia’s war crimes prosecutor, says investigators are also trying to determine who was Dragan Dabic. That’s the name the genocide suspect used during his 12-year run from justice until he was arrested in Belgrade on Monday.

According to Serbian officials, Dabic died in 1993 in Sarajevo.

Serbian media reports Dabic was a Serb fighter who died in the war. But in Sarajevo, reports say he was a civilian killed by Karadzic’s troops which besieged the Bosnian capital during the 1992-95 war.
