What the hell! Again a girl child!

LIFESTYLE. .

What the hell! Again a girl child! Enough of it yaar! I am done with your stupidities! My distant relative was shouting on his young, beautiful, and second time pregnant wife. The medical reports had confirmed that the couple was going to have a healthy girl child. But, I guess, the husband was not very happy with God's decision of bestowing a beautiful pearl to them in the form of a girl.

But, the question arises that why was he not happy with it??? What was the taboo in having a girl child again? Was he not happy of becoming a father again or was it something else that he wanted? Yes, he wanted a SON! A son, whom he call his own! A son, who could, according to our society norms, take his so-called 'VANSH' ahead! But, why was it so?? What was the desperation behind this yearning? Couldn't the girl child get him all the things that he expected from a SON! I think, No, a girl could never get him all the things! She could give him care by being a daughter, a companion, a friend in his old age, a sisterly advice! But, I guess all these things didn't qualify for getting her same place in her father's heart as may be her brother would have got! Even if the brother wouldn't have cared a single day for his father! He still deserved all the love! And the girl child only deserved to be abused for being a girl!

Well, being a girl myself, I am also unable to seek answers to these questions! Though, thankfully, I never had to face any such problems at my home, I used to get very disturbed when I used to hear about this biased ness being shown to the girls in the outside world! News about female foeticides, killing of girl childs, divorces because of the wife giving birth to the girl child, every time posed a question about the existence of a girl before my eyes. Who is actually responsible for this? Our elders? Our society? Our mentalities? Or, we ourselves? I think, the answer to this question lies with no one in particular, yet with everyone of us as a society!

Our great saints, religious gurus, poets, and learned ones did understood the importance of having daughters in a father's life and that is why they gave so many exquisite quotes celebrating this relationship:

'To a father growing old nothing is dearer than a daughter.' – Euripides
