Are We Really Independent?
It’s been 63 years that our country won it’s freedom from the oppressive clutches of British rule and simultaneously the British lost the freedom to exploit Indians and turn this country into a booming business paradise. I said this in an effort to put through to you the point that someone’s freedom always comes at someone else’s cost. What makes it different in the eyes of the rest of the world is which one is justified and which one isn’t. For example during the rule of the British their word was law basically there was no justice meted out to the Indians ,they were mercilessly and brutally tortured for nearly 200 years with almost absolute freedom(except for a few martyrs who stood in the path of their tyrannical rule).The situation of the common men is still the same---our protectors have turned tormentors. The native rulers are no less capable than their British counterparts when it comes to exploiting us ,with the difference that the former makes many benevolent speeches promising us the best life-style starting from adequate water supply to social security (conveniently forgetting it later though).I haven’t faced any crisis regarding the former living in a metro but when it comes to a matter of safety I can say taking a leaf out of Priyadarshan’s book (the song from his new movie Khatta Meetha http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YI6SG2aeQPM) the promises are a total bullshit. For a woman the vulnerability towards such crimes increases manifold --- cases of ‘widow found dead in a tank’,’wife hacked to death, in-laws absconding’, ’MBA grad raped while returning home’ are only too familiar. It seems the criminals have been able to achieve their full fledged freedom in committing nuisance in a mere 63 years ,obvious thanks to our fallen law and order system. In fact it should be given the credit for churning out more uniformed criminals than their faceless counterparts. Our system is so rotten to the core that it has been only too easy to bring it down, or rather raise it to its present venerable status with repeated blows at it by the members of the corrupted system itself. It’s needless to say that the officials in government offices too are not deprived of the freedom-they freely take huge sums of money in return of generous favours. Another new group of freedom fighters Khaps have recently started showing their cultural consciousness and sense of integrity in north India demanding the freedom to kill couples who have dared to marry within the same gotra(sorry???come again) Not that they are waiting for their freedom ,these group of honourable men undaunted by the laws (which declare this as a cold-blooded murder and hence a criminal offence) have relentlessly pursued their noble work and have led to the brutal murder of such thoughtless dishonourable couples. But I have strong hopes that backed by politicians like Navin Jindal these Khaps will soon get a legal permission to freely kill honour oops I meant couples .India is the home to 27 domestic terror groups, that they also enjoy complete freedom is proved by the frequent regional riots, mass murders. I am sure you must have heard about the noble mission carried out last year in Mangalore by Ram Senas in an effort to purge our society of unlawful girls who go pub-hoppin(what an unforgivable crime???). Even though those immoral girls might find it to be nothing more than a traumatizing experience,but who are they to speak up against these great enlightened men against whom even the political leaders falter and who are merely trying to protect our country’s culture or Hinduism , errrr excuse me for forgetting which one they were exactly trying .What makes me revel in joy is that these men went absolutely scot free!!!No one knows when next they are going to exercise their newfound freedom. What amazes me is the consistency with which these people have been fighting against the established order and how they have succeeded in truly giving us a new future free from laws and have given new definitions to right and wrong.
Last but not the least many clinics even in posh locales of metros are enjoying their due share of freedom too---they are aborting hundreds of female foetuses with advanced scientific techniques everyday though still undercover since unfortunately some law still exists which considers this act as a criminal offence. But not to worry it’s hardly effective. WOW after all these years today on the eve of the 64th Independence Day, India can finally proudly claim to be a free country giving the freedom to murder, rape, bribe, traffick (children and girls into sex slavery) to anyone and everyone. I think this deserves a round of applause and a standing ovation---I mean after all this drama of trying to get back our freedom from the British rulers we are back where we had begun rather we have bettered ourselves (mis-)using our freedom in the best way possible. But my ultimate moment of pride was when on the morning of 9th August I came across the news of how a 14 year old girl have been paraded naked across three villages and continuously molested on the way by hundreds of men and how no one protested this act.After reading this and realizing how India has given it's countrymen the freedom to get away with anything and everything I couldn’t contain my pride any longer, I just broke into tears.
