All masala Hindustani films necessarily have a rain dance scene. Right from ‘Ram Teri Ganga Meli ’to ‘ Dabangg’ ,the rain dance and song sequences have been used by the filmmakers as sure shot formula to hit the jackpot. The rain dance is not shot in the actual rain fall, it requires thousands litres of pure (possibly mineral) water to drench the heroine who gets an opportunity to showcase her assets. A colossal wastage of water you may say but the secret of their box office success much depends on tantalizing rain dance songs. The reason for the world water shortage according to Pakistani newspaper Jung is bollywood films. The paper has quoted many Hindi movies which have made excessive use of water in filming rain soaked dance scenes. The paper has also compared Titanic with several bollywood films to prove the point. The paper has stated that while Titanic used only 450,000 litres of water to sink the ship, bollywood films use far more gallons of water in rain dance shots. Rain dance of Sonakshi Sinha in ‘Dabang’ consumed 1800,000 litres of water ,’Tum Mile’ dealing with Mumbai floods used 3600,000 litres of water and ‘My Name is Khan’ is ‘credited’ for using 2400,000 litres of water. To top it all, movie ‘de dana dan’ wasted 8400,000 litres of pure drinking water for shooting a prolonged idiotic scene flooding the entire hotel. Examples of misuse of water in the bollywood films are galore. What is achieved by the makers of the films in rain dance scenes can also be achieved in the bathroom with much less use of water thus saving one of the most precious commodities required by human beings to avoid threat of third world war.
