Venezuela's Chavez Believes Capitalism Killed Martians
People have always speculated about whether there was ever life on the planet Mars, and that fascination has extended to the film industry which has produced a plethora of movies about Martians. But in spite of the obsession with the Red Planet, and the various probes to Mars, no-one has been able to effectively determine whether life ever existed on the planet, except for one man- Hugo Chavez. Yes, Venezuela's wacky President, who is always a never-ending source of amusement, seems convinced there was, and that imperialism and capitalism might have contributed to its demise.

Speaking in honor of World Water Day, Chavez opined: "I have always said, heard, that it would not be strange that there had been civilization on Mars, but maybe capitalism arrived there, imperialism arrived and finished off the planet."
Huh? As far as I know, he did not delve further into how a planet full of people could simply vanish into thin air, but he's never been one for logic. Of course, as a fierce opposer of free market enterprise, he blames all the world's ills on capitalism.
As part of the World Water Day, he also spoke about what he deems is a major impending catastrophe- the drying up of the Earth's water supplies. "Careful! Here on planet Earth where hundreds of years ago or less there were great forests, now there are deserts. Where there were rivers, there are deserts." Yes, there are droughts in certain areas, but I sincerely doubt, we have to worry about losing our water supplies. There are far more dangerous issues facing our planet which could wipe us out before we face extinction from lack of water. A critic of the UN's recent establishment of a no-fly zone over Libya (and the subsequent attacks) he's convinced that the reasons for those attacks were not about helping the Libyan people (who called out to the West to save them), but because of Libya's abundant oil reserves and "water".
Water?
So much of what Chavez comes out with is supremely laughable, but then you have to remind yourself that these lunatic ramblings are coming from a man who leads a country, and then it becomes more frightening than humorous.
