US warns Eritrea over Al-Shabaab

The US has put Eritrea on notice, and this time the message was brought closer home by Hillary Clinton who has been on an African tour.

Clinton who has been delivering Obama's message to every State she has been to in Africa, did not mince words on reforms and good governance. Kenyan leaders had no option other than stomaching the strong words that Clinton used while delivering her government's message to Kenyan leaders.

Clinton warned Eritrea that the US was watching while she pledged support for the Somalia beleaguered government. This is what Clinton told Eritrea, “ It is long past time for Eritrea to cease and desist its support of Al-Shabaab and to start being a productive rather than a destabilizing neighbor. We are making it clear that their actions are unacceptable. We intend to take action if they do not cease.

The militia has in the past confessed to have received support from Eritrea. This isn't the first mention of an Eritrea - al Shabaab link. An assassination plot, by al Shabaab, to kill President Obama on inauguration day had been supported by Eritrea.

The US threatened Eritrea with war if the plot were successful. "Eritrea supports us and Ethiopia is our enemy -- we once helped both countries but Ethiopia did not reward us," These are some of the statements the militia head has made in course of this year.

"There may be two or three Arabs who were moved by Islam to fight alongside us. But there is no large number of foreign Mujahideen in Mogadishu. We and the Arabs are all Muslims -- so we are Arabs," he said.

"We are not fighting for positions, but for Islam. It is agreed upon within Islam that Christians and those they support are the same -- so war is incumbent upon us, like prayer."
