More emergency food aid is on its way to Haiti.

The U.S. government says it will ship an additional US$20 (euro13 million) million in emergency food aid to the Caribbean country.

The announcement comes a month after protests over rising food prices sparked riots that left at least seven dead.

The U.S. Embassy in Haiti said Friday that the shipment will include about 30,000 tons (27,000 metric tons) of wheat, rice, beans and vegetable oil.

The U.S. is one of Haiti’s largest donors. President Rene Preval and others have said subsidized agriculture in the U.S. is in part to blame for Haiti’s food crisis by weakening local farming.
