Polish Foreign Minister Radek Sikorski says talks with Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice about basing American missile interceptors in Poland have been productive and will continue.
Sikorski’s meeting with Rice on Monday follows Warsaw rebuffing the latest U.S. offer to persuade Poland to accept the missile defense facility.
Sikorski says “we have clarified our position, and we had some productive ideas.”
Washington and Warsaw opened negotiations 18 months ago on placing the 10 missile interceptors in northern Poland. The U.S. says they are intended to protect the West from possible attacks from Iran.
