U.S. Muslim Group To Protest Violence In The name Of Islam

POLITICS. .

It's not enough for a few prominent, vocal Muslims to openly condemn the violence and terrorism perpetrated in the name of their religion, it will take masses to prove to the west that Islam means no harm to non-Muslims. Only then will the fear and distrust evaporate. And we're finally seeing that happening, at least in the west. British anti-shariah Muslim groups have recently started to demonstrate against the radicalisation of Brit Muslims, and now the U.S. is finally seeing the same thing happening. In this case, a Detroit attorney, Majed Moughni (of the Dearborn Area Community Members), has organized a peaceful march to coincide with the hearing of Detroit bomber Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab.

They will be protesting terrorism committed in the name of Islam.

For eight or nine years Muslims are attacked by the media and by terrorists who pretend to represent us. It is time we take a stand and show Islam is not an evil religion, it is a religion of peace. Those who would commit terrorism do not represent Islam,” Majed Moughni, organizer of the Dearborn Area Community Members, told Al Arabiya.

Although Moughni complains about media attacks in the past, they have been well-justified considering, until recently, there has been either major rejoicing in the Muslim community after terror attacks against the west, or a noticeable lack of condemnation.

Moughni's organization has a Facebook page calling for Muslims and others to join forces during the protest to strongly condemn Abdulmutallab’s actions, and it's about time.

The group’s motto is to “provide a network of support for a stronger country, one community at a time,” and it seems to be working as both Muslim and non-Muslims posted comments showing their support for the Muslim community.

So far there are 380 Facebook members and growing. And there has been much support for what they are doing.

One post read: “Please bring your signs, and American flags: theme: "NOT IN THE NAME OF ISLAM."

“It is time for American Muslims to stand up and protest against all the violence and actions taken by people who pretend to be Muslims. Islam is about peace, love and faith not about violence, terrorism and destruction,”stated another post.

It's time peaceful Muslims join hands together with non-Muslims to fight against the ever-increasing radicalisation of the people of Islam. We have a common enemy, since extremists are just as likely to kill fellow Muslims as they are Christians, Hindus or Jews. We need to change the perception that it's Muslims against every other religion and vice versa, and that will only happen by Muslims, openly condemning the actions of extremists in their religion.
