High wind delayed the start of the U.S. Alpine Championships at Sugarloaf USA on Friday.
Organizers had changed the schedule in hopes of running the slalom, an event that’s the easiest to run in poor weather and low visibility because it’s held at lower elevation. But the wind was too severe for that event.
That leaves the rest of the schedule uncertain. Other events to be run over the course of the five-day championships include the downhill, Super G and giant slalom.
Lindsey Vonn, who won the World Cup overall and downhill titles, plans to ski at the event.
Julie Mancuso, the current Olympic giant slalom champion, is expected to arrive on Saturday.
