UK's Islam Channel Guilty Of Promoting Marital Rape

POLITICS. .

I must be a prostitute because I wear perfume in public. At least that's what an advice programme, called IslamiQA, on England's main Muslim television station, Islam Channel, would have me believe. According to the idiot who made that comment if a stranger smells your perfume you're "declared a prostitute." I wonder if that applies to men and their cologne? Oh, and I'll probably wind up in hell, because "the majority of people in the hell will be women”, that's because we are such terrible creatures and create all the “calamities, hardship and suffering” in the West. Well, if heaven and hell are segregated by gender it wouldn't be much different than how it is on earth. And, a woman needs permission to leave her house, yes, even in England. It's also perfectly okay to rape your wife, if she doesn't feel up to having sex with you, because after all, a wife is a man's property and he can do whatever he wants with her. These and other intolerant views about women, have been promoted on this TV channel, that seems to be broadcasting fundamentalist, extremist views.

All of the above instances of intolerance towards women were published in a report by Quilliam, a counter-terrorism think tank co-founded by Muslims, that spent about 3 months analyzing programming on the channel.

Among the comments highlighted by the report were those by a guest on the programme Muslimah Dilemma on whether a wife should always agree to sex with her husband.

The guest said “it is a bit strange... to refuse relations. It would harm a marriage. The idea that a woman, even if married, can refuse relations with her husband because of individual choice'... is part of the Western culture, but not Islam.”

What he's saying, in other words, is that Islam condemns a wife's refusal of sexual relations with her husband, which basically gives the man license to force the wife to have sex with him, which is rape. Maybe the Muslim man should think about someone other than himself, and take a cold shower to quell his lust. And what would harm a marriage more, would be a woman being forced to have sex when she was not up to it.

Treatment of women isn't the only issue Quilliam has with Islam Channel:

The think tank, which is calling for an investigation by broadcasting watchdog Ofcom, also accuses the channel of advertising talks by al Qaeda-supporting preacher Anwar al-Awlaki, who is alleged to have inspired failed Detroit bomber Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab, and of giving a platform to other extremist Islamists.

They also found that some of the programmes on the channel have aired hostile comments towards non-Muslims and Muslims alike, at least those Muslims who don't toe their kind of Islam, which they believe is detrimental. And although their website states that their goal is “to present the Islamic viewpoint and values” providing “authoritative and impartial Islamic information”. Their goals and what is happening with their programming don't jibe.

Talal Rajab, the report's author, said the programmes regularly promoted an “intolerant and out-of-date” form of Islam with unacceptable views. He said: “It is the most-watched Muslim TV channel in the UK. During the three-month period that we monitored its output, it repeatedly promoted bigoted and reactionary views towards women, non-Muslims and other Muslim sects.

“Although the channel does not directly call for terrorist violence, it clearly helps to create an atmosphere in which religiously-sanctioned intolerance and even hatred might be seen as acceptable.

"By promoting a single narrow version of Islam, Saudi Wahhabism, the Islam Channel is wasting an enormous opportunity to positively shape the nature of Islam in Britain.”

All you have to mention is the word Wahhabi, and you know how intolerant that form of Islam is.

Thankfully there are Muslim think tanks out there monitoring these kinds of issues, and making an effort to reign in extremism. There is no place in a civilized society for any form of extremism, whatever religion it might happen to be.
