Kasese Woman Member of Parliament Winifred Kiiza while reporting a scam at Kampala Central Police station noticed 23 year old Lukiyo Agino arrested over child abuse. The Police spokesman briefing the media about the arrest was explaining that Lukiyo was arrested for using a malnourished two-year-old child as bait to get money from sympathisers, a child not even her own - Newvision reports.
The angered member of Parliament - Kiiza Winifred - then decides to take matters in her own hands. She is quoted questioning Lukiyo
“Why do you subject this child to such acts?”
in english which the poor street girl Lukiyo does not understand. Lukiyo fakes a smile that prompts the already angry legislator to bring down a heavy slap on her face.
Worse still, journalists attending the press briefing cheer the legislator on to vent more punishment on the poor girl!
”Mwongere (slap her more),” some journalists shouted.
I do not support the member of parliament for slapping Lukiyo. This is wrong! I do not support Lukiyo either for using a 2-year-old child to earn her upkeep. Lukiyo has her own reasons that should be heard by a court of law. Thank God Lukiyo was arrested and the abuse stopped. Now, let the law and Police do their work.
The member of parliament has given a very bad example to the entire country! The picture this gives to everyone is to always take matters of whatever is wrong in their community in their own hands and forget the Police. The member of parliament is undermining the work of the Police and the law. She should be severely punished as a strong message to curb the growing mob justice in this land. If this is not done, let no one, not even the media question why there is growing murder, mob justice, arson and fewer people reporting cases to the Police!
